Angel with the Sword in the Rock

Hand-drawn scan | Acrylic or sketchbook

$5 digital download

Angel with the Sword in the Rock is a study in stillness and strength. A tall winged figure with long hair stands behind a dark boulder, both hands folded over the hilt of a sword driven straight down into the stone. The great wings fan out behind the shoulders in soft, feathered layers, and the face is calm, eyes lowered, as if keeping watch. Devorah worked the whole piece in shades of gray wash and pencil, then picked out the light on the arms, the blade, and the rock with fine white strokes. You receive a high-resolution digital file, ready to print at any size for a hallway, a reading corner, or anyone who loves fantasy and guardian figures.

In Devorah's words

This is the explanation behind the angel and the rock. I don't have a date on this one. I think I drew it in 2025, or maybe 2024.

When I looked at the image I sent to Abba, I thought the angel was standing over a rock, like in a lot of fantasy stories where there's a stone and the hero draws the sword out of it. But it turns out what I thought was a rock was actually the angel's lap, and the sword was resting between the angel's legs. I didn't realize it at the time. I only noticed after I finished the artwork, and I was like, oh, damn.
